So, how do you write a match report after a game like today?

Without checking, I think this season has been 13 games, 13 losses, but for those who weren’t there it is important to say that at no time in any of those games did we give in. 50-0 down at half time? Halftime talk is basically “last try wins” and to quote Galaxy Quest (such a good movie) “Never give in. Never surrender”.

Last night I posted on our FB page encouraging everyone to get game ready early doors. To get angry. To get prepared. And to do it all NOW, not 20 mins after KO, and everyone did. G took us through an awesome warm up, and the intensity was high when KO came. We also benefited from Will Robson in the back row. I say that on the basis that it allowed us to attack 1 player further out. Having Will allowed our back row to be more mobile which let us attack outside the normal 1 channel that having “weighty” back rowers normally dictates.

I think our first try almost happened by accident. Usually we would keep things tight, but Alex, our beloved skipper threw a ridiculous pass from the base of the scrum but Harry Cooper , the flanker playing at 15, took the ball well and rand 60m to score.

Then we had our aged fly-half try to relive his youth, and thankfully pass the ball to El Capitan who ran through to score.

I apologise if I’m wrong but I think Will got the next one through excellent support running. So far so good, and Sak had made some inspiring runs that gained him a MOTM award.
Luckily our Captain managed a try to keep the momentum going.

Unfortunately we then got tired and a tiny bit lazy and conceded a try.
Half time 28-5.

At half time we talked about doing more of the same, but you could detect a trace of “this game could go either way”. Fortunately the first move of the second half got us a try and though I apologise to Melton if this feels like bragging, the rest of the half was ours. Will went over to the 1s game, due to an injury, but every player who came on for us seemed to add rather than subtract from the side. Weg, Henry, Jan, et al.

I cannot remember the circumstances of each and every try so shall resolve to simply list scorers from here, but well done one and all.

In conclusion, all I can say is “What a game”. Everyone contributed, no one let us down, and we got a win.
